Gregory Blaxland was influenced by Sir Joseph Banks in his decision to emigrate to Sydney in 1805. The Government promised land, convict servants and free passage to 'Settlers of responsibility and capital', and Blaxland arrived on the 'William Pitt' with his wife, three children, two servants, an overseer, sheep, seed, bees, tools, groceries and clothing.
